12/11/2022 0 Comments October MoMSeven games played during the month of October which included the re arranged Exeter game gave the Addicks 3 wins, 3 draws and one loss. A huge improvement on the September results. Perhaps having Chuks coming on for 10 minutes was the catalyst that made the difference. For us 7 games meant 63 points were available. Postie remained top with an ever reducing total but that did not mean they were the MoM for October. That honour goes to Somerset Addick Jnr who gained 41 points - well done! After the excitement of last Saturday's 4-4 draw with 4 goals scored in extra time, the Addicks and fans need a few weeks rest from league action and that is what we have. However, before our next league game away against Burton Albion on Saturday 12th November where 22 say an away win, 14 a draw leaving 6 saying a loss, there are 3 cup games to be fitted in. First up is tomorrow night at home against Brighton U21's in the pizza trophy. A few days later we have Coalville Town coming to the Valley for round one of the FACup then on the following Tuesday, 8th November we are away to Stevenage for the Carabao Cup. All of these, including the Burton game should be 'certain' wins. Ummm. BG in the stands, Egbo and O'Connell possibly out, Chuks and CBT playing 15 minutes per game and Stockley up front. Time will tell. COYRs Tauntonaddick

12/11/2022 0 Comments IpswichBG made 2 changes to the team and the Addicks set up 4-4-1-1 with Stockley alone up front. My favourite striker was gifted the ball in the opening minutes with the Ipswich goalie well off his line but the chance was rushed and that was it for goal mouth action from Charlton. We defended well but had 2 enforced changes due injuries to Egbo and O'Connell which saw the introduction of Morgan and Lavelle. Ipswich toyed with Clare and Morgan down our right, kept possession while we huffed and puffed up front and looked vulnerable at the back. Well into injury time Morgan ends up marking one of the tallest Ipswich players who ends up with a free header to make it 0-1. Oh dear oh dear. Yup, the standard of the officials is not good in league 1, we know decisions will not go our way but we need to defend the resulting free kick. 0-2 and BG gets sent off for complaining. I hindsight, was that the turning point of the game? At last, Stockley and Kirk removed, Chuks and CBT bought on and Rak-Sakyi moved to the right. One minute later Chuks down the right, crosses, shot from CBT deflected and Rak scores. Ipswich immediately on the counter and poor, poor defending allows then a golden chance to make it 3. Fortunately Wollacott's feet get in the way to keep the score 1-2. More yellow cards are flashed, the home crowd come alive as do the Addicks. Game on! Charlton back on level terms in the 76th when Sessengon and CBT combine to create another deflected shot and Morgan is there to score. End to end stuff but our defending and marking is a worry. We run out of steam and 6 minutes of extra time is called and before blinking it's 2-4 - again poor marking. Fortunately the ref continued to have a nightmare and allowed play to continue for 10 minutes. During those extra 4 minutes we score twice. Yes, Chuks, CBT, Sessengno, Rak run the Ipswich ragged and we suddenly managed to get behind their defence. I've run out of breath, it finishes 4-4, wow what a game of footie. Please lets start Chuks and CBT. Wow. No one predicted 4-4 but Postie remains top. Cup games for the next 10 days which I will update when I have recovered COYS! Tauntonaddick 12/11/2022 0 Comments M K DonsOne change to the starting 11 with Clare replacing Sessengnon although it wasn't until he was substituted in the 73rd was I aware Stockley was on the pitch. After 3 wins in a row against teams in the top half this was a banana skin and the Addicks duly slipped as they have a habit of doing when playing lower league opposition. MKDons did their homework, sat back, defended deep and as Curbs said, "did a number on us". This was helped by 2 poor ref decisions but even if we had finished with 11 men and not had the resulting penalty scored, I'm sure we still would not have had a clue how to make an impact in the last third. We were bereft of ideas, skill, strength and guile. We had one shot on target compared to MKDons 6. Perhaps a reality check that we are just a mid table third division team like the rest of the pack we play. We don't stand out week after week which we need to do to be promoted. As always, a frustrating evening watching my team with my mate! Who'd have predicted a 2 nil loss? Well FIJ, Mel the Magician, Mid Life Crisis, Greg Hague and Chatty Addick did and gain maximum points. Postie remains top but the gap to 2nd and third is narrowing. Saturday sees Ipswich at the Valley who won 3-2 away at Port Vale this evening and with Plymouth, have created a gap at the top of the table. We will be without Innis who was sent off this evening so will we see the return of Lavell? We are completely split as to the result: 15 say a loss, 14 a draw and 13 a win. Let's hope the Addicks frustrate and produce the best performance of the season so far and see of the tractor boys! COYRs Tauntonaddick 12/11/2022 0 Comments ShrewsburyThe Addicks travelled to Montgomery Waters Meadow near Shrewsbury with a few changes. Kirk joined Stockley up front while Tyreece Campbell started on the left hand side in the mid field. The Shrews had a chance cleared off the line by Stockley but the Addicks grew into the game and should have gone in at half time 2 up with Rak-Sakyi missing a couple of sitters. A slow, cagey start to the second half saw Charlton passing the ball across the back 4 which invited unnecessary pressure and the Shrews should have taken the lead in the 65th minute. The debutant, Campbell was substituted by Payne and Charlton continued to try coming down Shrewsbury's left hand side. In the 69th, Payne at last found space, put the ball into the penalty area and finds Rak-Sakyi. Third time lucky, it's 1 nil. Let's hope we don't rue those missed chances and keep pressing for a second. Shrewsbury make 3 subs in reply to the goal bringing forward players on and BG quickly responds with Aneke and Claire and shortly after with Thomas and Morgan. 4 minutes of extra time and we are pinned in our penalty area giving away free kicks. A chaotic end after 7 minutes of extra time. Shrewsbury asked questions but a deserved win for Charlton which brings them up to 7th on 22 points. FIJ, Firmani Star, Valley Gone West, Near Swindon, Dis Tonlant, Peter Vickery, Somerset Addick, King George and Cathy gained maximum points but Postie remains top. Home to MKDons next Tuesday for a 19:45 kick off. 16 reckon it will be another 3 points, 14 have said just one point leaving 12 saying we will not continue our march back up our table. 3 wins in a row, another clean sheet, an away win, MKDons lost again and 2 home games coming up. Just need a bumper crowd this week. COYRs Tauntonaddick 12/11/2022 0 Comments PortsmouthWell, what a performance in front of the Sky cameras tonight. 4-4-2 with CBT up front, Dobson and Fraser working well together in the middle and Inniss up front for set pieces to score the opener with his head from a superb cross from Dobson. We went on to score 2 more and keep a clean sheet against a fancied team who threatened but seem to fall short when playing the Addicks. Another win against a south coast side moves us up to 10th and 2 points from the play off places. What a difference a few weeks make and BG realising he has to make tactical changes to suit the squad he has. Brilliant! Nobody predicted it would end with such a comprehensive victory but Postie remains top with a slightly reduced lead. Next Saturday we travel to Shrewsbury where 19 predict an away win, 15 a draw and 8 a loss. We really need to pick up some points on the road and hopefully with confidence high, good tactics and a large squad to choose from, an away win will be the turning point of the season encouraging us all to return to the Valley. COYRs Tauntonaddick 12/11/2022 0 Comments ExeterI was travelling back from Cape Verde last night so missed the return of Chuks, a 4-2 home win and Leaburn limping off. A happy but sparsely populated Valley looking at the highlights. Amazing how 3 points moves you up the table so quickly! Nobody predicted it would end 4-2 but Postie remains 10 points clear at the top with myself firmly rooted to the bottom! Portsmouth at the Valley next Monday evening for a 20:00 kick off. 26 say a home win, 10 a draw leaving 6 saying Pompey are going to take all 3 points back to Fratton Park. Let's hope confidence has been boosted, Chuks will be fit to play 30 minutes and Leaburn is not too badly injured. COYRs Tauntonaddick 12/11/2022 0 Comments Lincoln CGood afternoon After the disaster of loosing in the pizza trophy on Tuesday to a lower league side I was hoping today's 4-4-2 might be more fruitful. It turned out to a complete waste of 2 hours of my holiday. Normally a clean sheet and a draw away would be reason to celebrate but this was utter dross! One shot on goal from each side; a dreary 0-0 score with both sides looking keen to depart the field with 15minutes to go; appalling, but standard for league one officiating all leaving BG amazed those brave fans who made the journey during a train strike booed at the end. Joachim Sandgaard doesn't think reducing ticket prices (a now deleted twitter post or 2) will attract many more fans to the Valley this winter. While not good to openly criticise a Fans Advisor I tend to agree while this standard of football is being served up and we are now facing a relegation battle - have a look at the table. Would I go if the tickets were free this Tuesday for the Exeter game? Would you/ Our table is topped by Postie who is on 70 points, 10 points clear. He along with Jan Fower, Harv, Phippy's Superstars and King George all predicted the 0-0 draw. Hoping the wheels don't fall off this Tuesday evening. COYRs Tauntonaddick 12/11/2022 0 Comments Oxford UAnother game of 2 halves in front of a small crowd at the Valley saw the team walk off at half time with the sound of boos ringing in their ears. It was one of the worse lack lustre performances ever witnessed and regretfully I've seen some poor ones over recent years. A change of formation to 4-4-2 for the second half, the introduction on Leaburn and Stockley at last scored. Both sides had golden chances to put the game to bed but it ended 1-1, probably the right result for a poor game. FIJ, WillTheAddick, Jan Fower, Colin and Greg Hague, Rebekah Hunt, Sammy, Dis Tonlant, Mel The Magician, Somerset Addick Jnr and Cathy all gained maximum points. Postie remains top of our table with myself at the bottom. COYRs Tauntonaddick 26/9/2022 0 Comments September MoMBen Garner will certainly not be winning any awards for this months performance as Team Manager. 4 games played so plenty of time for tired legs to recover but only 2 draws and 2 losses. 8 goals conceded with 4 scored. I wonder if he will still be in charge at the end of October after 7 league games and a pizza cup game? Our prestigious Manager of the Month September 2022 award goes to Postie who gained 28 points from a possible 36. Well done Postie! Tauntonaddick 26/9/2022 0 Comments BarnsleyWhat a dismal result this afternoon at Oakwell for the Addicks. The 3rd goal conceded would not have even been seen on a Sunday afternoon at the local fields - non existent defending. MR Garner needs to wake up to the fact he has a limited squad who can't play tippy tappy football, cannot defend and cannot operate as a 4-3-3. Stockley is a complete waste of space up front as he is an up front man, not a striker. He would be better off being employed as a central defender. Even if we were scoring multiple times, allowing goals to be scored against us at the will of the opposition will not gain us a win. Something has to change and change mighty soon. Many games coming up in October and we need to get back to basics. The aptly named "Near Swindon" was the only person to predict the 1-3 loss. Well done for the second week in a row. Postie remains top with 8 points clear of the rest of us. I'm away for a few weeks so here are the predictions for October's games. I'll try updates while away, but no promises. Next Saturday we are at home to Oxford. 14 say a home win, 20 a draw and 8 a loss. On the Tuesday there is a Pizza Cup game away to Colchester followed by an away trip to LIncoln on the Saturday where 11 have said an away win, 10 a draw and 12 a loss. On the following Tuesday, 11th October, Exeter travel to the Valley for the re arranged game where 38 said a home win, 3 a draw and 1 a loss. COYRs Tauntonaddick |
