24/9/2022 0 Comments FleetwoodA slow start from the Addicks with us chasing the ball and missing a 'golden' opportunity early on. When is possession, we give it away far too easily which allowed Fleetwood to score in the 30th. It didn't improve with Fleetwood looking more likely to score a second than us to equaliser. As the whistle blows at half time at the Highbury Stadium we are yet again, chasing the game. The pundits plead for a formation change to allow the wingers room and Stockley some support. Second half starts with Clayden being replaced by Egbo. Chances at both ends but Fleetwood look the most likely to score as they pressurise the Addicks in and out of possession. With 13 minutes to go, Leaburn is bought on and moments later, back heels to equalise. We could have gained a winner but that would have been daylight robbery. An away point is great so why do I have this empty feeling? Of the 18 of you who predicted an away win: Todd Fower, Firmani Star, Rebekah Hunt, Near Swindon, Harv, Somerset Addick 1st Born, Somerset Addick, King George, Boss Tha, Cams and for the second week in a row, Old Time Addick and Postie gain maximum points. And for the first time this season we have a clear leader at the top of the table, well done Postie! I think the next game is away at Barnsley next Saturday but I have been to know to get this wrong before! Only 4 predict an away win with 25 saying a loss leaving 13 for a draw. COYRs Tauntonaddick

24/9/2022 0 Comments Forest Green RoversAnother game of 2 halves. We started well and should have been well in the lead at half time but come the final whistle we were lucky to take a point from the game. Richard Chin aged 19 earned his full league debut playing 72 minutes. The 1-1 draw earned Postie, Patsy, Old Time Addick and Johnny's Jesters maximum points. Postie moves to the top of our table with 44 points. Today, Saturday 19th September, The Addicks travel to Fleetwood Town with 13 predicting an away win, 18 a draw and 11 a loss. Ben Garner will not be travelling with the team as he has Covid. We will know by 5pm if his absence makes any difference. Apart from the Queen passing, long time committee member and stalwart club supporter Mike Turtle passed last Sunday. The funeral will be held on Friday 30th September at 2:45 at Weston Hill Crematorium, Plymouth. Our thoughts are with his wife, Heather and his family at this difficult time. COYRs Tauntonaddick 9/9/2022 0 Comments Bolton WanderersNo signings, no loanees, no ambition and no points from the Bolton game. Regarding the latter, I have a feeling it was a good job I missed the game as 3 goals we let in were abysmal. All this talk of a need for strikers and we are still woeful at the back. However, 27 of us knew this was going to be our second loss of the season but only Smiffy said it would end 1-3. Teme Addick joins Franglais at the top of our table. Exeter travel to the Valley next Saturday and 38 say this will be a home win, 3 a draw and only 1 person has predicted a loss. With Exeter beating MKDons today, I wonder how many of us would now change our minds. I was disappointed with the club's statement regards lack of transfer activity and TS's change of mind from us being a PL team to a financially stable club. To achieve the latter he wants to fill the Valley but this will only occur if there is a possibility of success on the pitch. With us looking like a very middling 3rd division side, he is not going to achieve any of his aims. Lets hope the website next week is full of news regards new loanees joining the club! COYRs Tauntonaddick 29/8/2022 0 Comments August MoMWith 5 games played in August, the Addicks won 2, drew 2 and lost one giving them a tidy 9 points from 6 league games played so far. This meant 45 points up for grabs for us and Matthew Bunn takes an early close lead with 32 points. There is still an error in the corrected table just sent which I will sort for the next game. Somerset Addick should be on 28 points. COYRs Tauntonaddick 29/8/2022 0 Comments Wycombe WanderersA good win mid week by the youngsters against Walsall means Charlton move onto the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2015. It was another game of 2 halves and Walsall probably feel they should have been one goal up in the first half. Perhaps refs for League One need to go 'full time'. Rumours all week of departures and possible arrivals at the Valley. The main purpose of the player sales seem to be driven by TS who wants to reduce the wage bill rather than the need to fill any positions. The transfer window closes in 4 days on 1 Sep 2022. A frenetic start to the game at Adams Park both sides score in the first 15 minutes. Charlton had most of the possession while the Chair Boys had most shots on target and the ref put 6 names in his book. Wycombe looked dangerous from set pieces while Stockley continued to look isolated up front as the game flowed from end to end. The second half started in a very similar fashion. Lots of Charlton possession, Wycombe looking dangerous on the counter and Stockley isolated but the yellow card remained in the ref's pocket.. Some great foot work by Rak-Sakyi, the Charlton goal scorer down the right is wasted in the 70th as the game drifted with subs, minor injuries, poor fitness levels and Stockley still the only player beyond the half way line in the last 20 minutes. Dobson was outstanding during this period and the ref did book a players from both teams as 6 minutes extra time are played out. An entertaining game with a draw being the 'right' result due to poor marking by the Charlton defence in the first half. A good result for the Addicks at a difficult place to get a draw. With Stockley being so isolated and well marked, it's no good trying to keep crossing to him if he has made it to the opposition penalty area. With only 2 shots on target by us, where are the goals going to come from this season? 16 predicted a draw and Curl, Firmani Star, Kevin Crout, Greg Hague, Rebekah Hunt, Sammy, Peter Vickery. Teme Addick, Somerset Addick, Cams and Cathy all gained maximum points. Franglais moves to the top of our table. There is a Pizza Trophy game at home next Tuesday against Gillingham with a 19:00 kick off. Next league game is away at Bolton who lost 0-2 at Plymouth. 6 predict an away win, 16 a draw and 23 a loss. COYRs Tauntonaddick 27/8/2022 0 Comments Cambridge UnitedAfternoon all A hot Saturday afternoon at the Valley saw the Addicks go in one up at half time with a goal that could have been ruled offside if we had VAR. Much possession was nullified by Cambridge who loaded the midfield knowing what Charlton's game plan would be. Plenty of excellent diagonal balls gave us opportunities but few resulted in clear cut chances. Kirk looked good on the left but Clare looked vulnerable at right back and Stockley needs to be more clinical. Cambridge will surely change their game plan for the second half, so we need a second goal. As predicted, Cambridge come back into the game with Charlton chasing the ball and in the 60th we allow a cross from their left which is saved but not cleared and the Cambridge striker is unmarked to tap the second ball home while we ball watch. Both Charlton full backs are booked shortly after the goal indicating how much Cambridge had come into the game. Several subs by Charlton included CBT who was sub'd by Henry in the 80th due to an injury. Another disappointing game of 2 halves. 6 minutes of extra time illustrated the inability to break teams down, the lack of a final crucial ball for a clinical finish in the final third. Mid Life Crisis, Franglais, Matt Bunn, FIJ and Long Way Back were the 5 to predict a draw and they all gained maximum points. Franglais goes top with Matt Bunn going second. Next Saturday we are away to Wycombe Wanderers where only 3 predict a win. 16 have gone for a draw and 23 a loss. Wycombe won 3-0 away at Barnsley today. Gilbey has gone to Lincoln and quite shockingly, TS made Olly Groome redundant with immediate effect on Monday night. TS didn't do the deed himself. Just to remind you, Olly was instrumental in keeping Southall et al out of the club and was the only conduit to the fans when Roland was in charge. COYRs Tauntonaddick 27/8/2022 0 Comments Plymouth ArgyleGood afternoon all A good result against 10 man Plymouth after what was perhaps a harsh sending off for hand ball mid way through the first half saw goals come from many players. No one predicted 5-1, but with 24 saying it was a certain home win, plenty of points all around. COYRs Tauntonaddick 18/8/2022 0 Comments Sheffield WednesdayGood evening What a good first half for the Addicks. Wednesday stood off and allowed us to play out from the back. We looked like the home team getting ourselves in good positions in the final third with Sessengnon, Kirk and CBT causing problems. I'm still not sure what Stockley is achieving in the middle. So can we keep that performance up for the second half and surely weather the coming storm from the Owls once they have tired out legs? Good start by the Addicks with a couple of opportunities. DJ jiggles around but doesn't deliver the final pass while Stockley is a good central defender. Wednesday went to their strong bench with 20 minutes to go and were allowed to come into the game which resulted in a good goal for the Owls in the 80th. 6 minutes of extra time wasn't enough to allow Charlton to get back on level terms. A good away performance from the Addicks but Sheffield Wednesday had the stronger bench and perhaps more mature tactics on a hot Saturday afternoon allowing Charlton to run and run knowing they were unlikely to make the most of their possession. Encouraging, better than last season but we need someone to put the ball into the net. Only Firmani Star, Postie and Kevin Crout gained maximum points but many points for a lot of people which keeps 3 sharing the top of the table. Even I have managed to move of the bottom of the table! On Tuesday Plymouth, who beat Peterborough today, travel to the Valley. 25 say a win, 16 a draw and 1 a loss. On the Saturday Cambridge travel to the Valley (what happened to home, away, home, away etc games?) when 36 predict a home win, 5 a draw and only one a loss. Cambridge also won today beating Exeter. It's not an "easy" league. COYRs Tauntonaddick 18/8/2022 0 Comments Derby CountyGood evening all At half time the Charlton Athletic pub team went into the tunnel lucky not to be 4 or 5 goals down. Fortunately for us, the Derby forwards were as capably as Stockley in putting the ball in between the posts. For the second half, the 'real' Charlton team made an appearance and scored a delightful goal to take all 3 points. The Derby supporters went home just like the Charlton supporters wondering when their respective teams would put a performance in for the full 90 minutes. Matt Bunn, Peter Vickery, Valley Boy Gone West, Teme Addick and Cathy all gained maximum points predicting the one nil win. Next Saturday Charlton travel to Sheffield Wednesday. We think the pub team will turn up as only one person has predicted an away win. That leaves 13 for a draw and 28 predicting a loss. I haven't clue! COYRs Tauntonaddick 18/8/2022 0 Comments Accrington StanleyGood evening We have 41 partaking in this seasons prediction competition and 17 said this would end in a draw. Only Sammy predicted a 2-2 draw and goes to the top of the table and of course is awarded our coveted Manager of the Month award, July 2022. I'm really not sure what to say about the teams' performance. There were good and poor points. It was great to see Fraser and Leaburn Jnr get on the score sheet; the team playing out from the back and keeping the ball on the floor. But, this is the 3rd tier where size and brute force is an essential part of survival. And, if you want to be promoted, you need to know how to deal with such tactics and when to shut up shop and take 3 points which you probably didn't deserve. We didn't. At the final whistle the game had a deflating 'deja vue' feeling - like last season on so many occasions we played well in the first and poorly in the second. As Howard Jones sang in 1985: "Things Can Only Get Better" (we hope!). Derby County travel to the Valley next Saturday for the first home game of the season where 16 say a home win. 7 a draw and 15 a loss. COYRs Tauntonaddick |
